Many of us may stand in line for something we want like the latest iPhone or a great Black Friday deal. But when was the last time you stood in line for something you need?

The truth is the line is long, especially this year, for those in need.

In November, we partnered with an important and inspiring organization to serve up a little love and a heaping of hope this holiday season.

Traveling Turkeys

A mission built from the rubble. Traveling Turkeys was born out of heartbreak in 2009 to honor Rick Stubbs, who is fighting his battle with Multiple Sclerosis, and in memory of Robert J. Cram, who lost his battle with ALS.

From this tragedy, they built something beautiful.

Their Mission

Traveling Turkeys truly captures the sentiment of the season. They organize the donations and delivery of a full Thanksgiving meal to deserving families who are dealing with difficult situations such as a family member affected by ALS-Lou Gehrig’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, or other life-changing circumstances. Each year, this outreach benefits thousands of families in our Kansas City community.

Families can shop together for turkeys, or companies can come together with their team and collect the full list of items that go inside the basket. Monetary donations are also welcomed and help to finish incomplete baskets.

The piece of the mission that is perhaps most inspiring is the love and care that goes into the assembly and delivery of the baskets. It really is something special.

A holiday tradition that leads with love. In this season of gratitude and giving, we feel so honored to be a small part of this big-hearted project.

Lumber One Partners with Traveling Turkeys

Many of our Lumber One employees gave their time to help organize and assemble the baskets, while others drove our trucks to help deliver hundreds of baskets around the Kansas City area.

There is no doubt Traveling Turkeys brings joy to the many people they bless, but we are also so blessed to join them in serving those in need.

We’re reminded that even in the hardest of times, there is the opportunity to lighten someone else’s load and bring a little love to the lives of families in our community.

We hope you feel all the joy and happiness this season has to offer. To give your time or learn more about Traveling Turkeys, visit: https://travelingturkeys.com/
